Engineers must be prepared to meet other ways of dealing with the flow in pipes. Water engineers could not wait whilst the scientists made sense of the flow in pipes, they got on and developed their own ways of dealing with the problems of sizing and so on. Their methods that have stood the test of time have not gone away because Moody produced his diagram. Experience tells me that it pays to try to take the best from both worlds.
